Geometric Symetry

PictureControl click the image to download a PDF of the ketchbook worksheet
Designed by Mrs. LaVine, the instructions are:
Sketch out ideas for your geometric symmetrical icon in the space below. Make sure to create unique/original (no copyright issues), thoughtful, and complicated symmetrical designs (made of geometric edges & shapes). The space should have 20+ sketches of a variety of styles, subjects, and ideas for the portfolio design. Use backside/attach additional pages if necessary.

Geometric Symmetrical Drawing Tips:
• Experiment with variety of lines (straight, diagonal, and curved) and shapes (geometric/man-made ONLY!)
• Experiment with symmetry (draw half the design with lines/shapes & mirror or reflect the design- both sides=same)
• Draw outlines of shapes & fill in the inside for solid shapes
• Determine a light source & examine the values of the subject (light, medium, dark areas) & draw them
• The highlights (white areas) can be left blank (using negative space), showing the white paper
• Include details of subjects (people= individual parts- eyes, nose, lips, etc./ object= surface details on object)
